Trinity - by: Lisa Grant

God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit - Together - are referred to as “the Trinity”

On this page we will clarify the Trinity.  But, remember: God is not human, so He can not be described as a human can be described.
Proverbs 5:1
"My son, pay attention to my wisdom, listen well to my words of insight."
When a man and woman are married they do not literally melt into one human being. Yet, they do become “one.”
God Is One
God is described as “one” in Deuteronomy 6:4, 1 Kings 8:60, Isaiah 44:8 and numerous other verses.
Deuteronomy 6:4
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!”

God Is More Than One
Genesis 3:22, Genesis 11:7, Isaiah 6:8, and other passages are examples of conversations within which God uses the word “we” or “us.”
Genesis 1:26
"Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock ..."

The Trinity Is God
Matthew 28:19
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”
Why did Jesus tell his eleven disciples to baptize people in the names of all - three members - of the Trinity? Why not one or two? It is obvious from this passage that the entire Trinity is God.

Father + Son + Spirit = God.

John 10:30;
"I and the Father are one.”

Dr. Harold Willmington gave this analogy of the Christian Trinity:  "Compare the Trinity to a book. For example, a book has length, width, and thickness. The length is not the book’s width, the width is not the book’s thickness. These three dimensions can be described separately, yet they are connected together. If you remove one dimension, you are no longer describing a book. In the same way, the Godhead has three separate members that are connected together, and if you try to remove one you no longer have the Godhead."

Is Jesus God?
Isaiah 9:6
"For unto us a Child is born,Unto us a Son is given;And the government will be upon His shoulder.And His name will be calledWonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 43:12
"I have declared and saved,I have proclaimed,And there was no foreign god among you;Therefore you are My witnesses,”Says the LORD, “that I am God.”
* It has been thoroughly proven that Isaiah 9:6 is a Messianic Prophecy referring to Jesus Christ. Notice how Isaiah 43:12 clearly shows that God refers to himself as God — the exact same term used to refer to Jesus. It is obvious that The Father and Jesus are both God.

Out of the Mouth of Jesus
In Luke 22:70 and John 8:58, Jesus answers questions put to him by the Pharisees.   Notice how Jesus answered their questions by saying “I am.”
They clearly understood the implication Jesus was making—that He was the same as God. They were so upset by what they called blasphemy that they called for Jesus' death.

Where was Jesus and The Holy Spirit in the beginning when God created everything?
Here the Bible reveals that, before the creation of the heavens and the earth described in Genesis 1, the Word was with God, and God made everything through Him.
John 1:1-3
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men."
Genesis 1:1-2
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters."
(*  Please note that we also see the Holy Spirit (of God) hovering over the waters.  In the very first book of the Bible our Trinity is pointed out.  God Created heaven and Earth.  God was looking at the "emptiness" while the Holy Spirit hovered over the waters.  Then, we see The Word was also there with God.  As a matter of fact, we find The Word WAS God.  Everything was made through The Word, and without The Word nothing could have been.  We read that The Word had life in him and the life is light to men.

God was not alone.
Genesis 1:26
"Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
Genesis 3:22;
“And the LORD God said, ‘The man has now become like one of us.’"

But, who is The Word?
We see by reading further that The Word is a title given to Jesus:
John 1:14
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
Revelation 19:13
"He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God."
We see many verses in the Bible that confirm Jesus is God
Ephesians 3:8-9;
"The unsearchable riches of Christ; And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ"
Jesus Christ is called the "Alpha . . . the beginning . . . the Almighty"
Revelation 1:8;
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Jesus is also called "the beginning of the creation of God"
Revelation 3:14;
"To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: the amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God, says this"

As always, God Bless you.
