Compassion - By: Lisa Grant

Our Bible is Full of Wisdom and Examples For Living

The best example is the life of Jesus. He and his disciples healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, and fed the masses; they were full of kindness and compassion. If we look to the Bible for advice and knowledge we can't miss this lesson.

Here are a few verses which describe and teach compassion
Ephesians 4:32
"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you"
Colossians 3:12
"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience"
Matthew 7:12
“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets"

Scripture tells us to be kind to everyone but, especially to the most fragile among us
Zechariah 7:10
"Do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the foreigner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.”

We should continue to help and show kindness
1 Timothy 5:22
"Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, nor take part in the sins of others; keep yourself pure."
Ephesians 4:31
"Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice."
As the body of Christ we are a light in the world and should lead by example
Romans 5:8
"But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
2 Timothy 2:25
"Correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,"

Remember, God commands us to forgive
Matthew 18:21-22
"Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times."
Matthew 6:14-15
"For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you..."

We are also commanded to even treat people who are unkind to us with compassion
Romans 12:20
"To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink"
Colossians 3:12-13
"Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive."

God Bless you and remember
Matthew 5:9
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."
Philippians 2:13
"For it is God who works in you..."
